Free ChatGPT – Advanced AI Features Without the Cost
OpenAI rolled out ChatGPT 4o (for “omni”)in May and made this fully-functional chatbot available on a limited basis to users without a subscription. This is a big deal because up until then, users were forced to pay a $20/month subscription fee or forego important functionality.
Free versions of AI chatbots are usually limited in three key areas:
- Unable to search the live web (you’re limited to the timing of their training data)
- Can’t upload documents (you have to write or cut and paste your prompt)
- Aren’t able to analyze data
Subscription versions of ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, and Claude have these three key functions plus lots of other bells and whistles.
For instance, users who subscribe to ChatGPT Plus get:
- 5X more access to the three key areas listed above
- Advanced data analysis (including chart making)
- Image generation
- Create and use custom GPTs

If you want to search the live web, you get full access with Gemini or Copilot. ChatGPT users get access but are limited to ~ 15 prompts per 3 hours.
If you want to upload documents, Claude users can upload Word and PDF documents, but not Excel files. ChatGPT users get access for all document types but are limited to ~ 15 prompts per 3 hours.
If you want to analyze data, Gemini users can use Python coding to analyze data that is cut and pasted into the prompt. ChatGPT users get access for all document types but are limited to ~ 15 prompts per 3 hours.
